Venture Camp 2022 | Venture Camps are extended orientation programs for admitted entering freshmen or transfer students starting in the fall semester. During the camp experience, students participate in a variety of outdoor activities and take part in Discussion Groups (DGs) to discuss college life at Texas A&M and campus traditions. This year, two different camp experiences were offered to incoming students. Venture: Base Camp Backpacking was July 28 – August 5, 2022, and Venture: Base Camp Paddling was July 18 – 23, 2022. Staff planning the Venture Camp programs wanted to understand the students’ experiences and how effective they were in reaching the identified outcomes. T-Camp 2022 | The purpose of this assessment was to understand the experiences of students who participated in T-Camp, sponsored by Aggie Transition Camps (ATC). T-Camp is an extended (three-day) optional orientation camp for students who are transferring to Texas A&M University. There was one session held from August 10th through August 12th. Fall 2023 Howdy Week | Howdy Week is a campus-wide collaboration to serve as Aggieland’s official welcome for all new and returning students. Howdy Week occurs the days before the start of the semester and was held on August 17-22, 2023. New Student and Family Programs (NSFP) wanted to understand students’ experiences attending the Fall 2023 Howdy Week. Student Affairs Planning, Assessment & Research has worked with New Student and Family Programs assessing coordinators involved with Howdy Week since 2017. 2023 Grad Camp Assessment | Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG) sponsored one virtual session and two in-person sessions of Grad Camp held on August 15th (virtual), August 17th, and August 19th. GPSG has worked with Student Affairs Planning, Assessment & Research (SAPAR) since 2009 to assess the experiences of counselors and the campers who attend Grad Camp. Fish Camp Participant Evaluation - Summer 2023 | According to its website (http://fishcamp.tamu.edu/mission/), Fish Camp strives to “welcome freshmen into the Aggie Family by sharing the traditions and values of Texas A&M University and building long-term relationships that embody the Aggie spirit.” Fish Camp operates as a student organization and is housed in the Department of Student Activities. This year, eight sessions were held in person from July 24th through August 13th, 2023. Fish Camp used to be a four-day camp at Lakeview Methodist Conference Center in Palestine, TX. However, starting in 2021 Fish Camp was shortened to three days. Fish Camp leaders and advisors wanted to understand the participants’ camp experiences and how Fish Camp affected, if at all, the start of the fall semester for those who attended. Fish Camp Non-Participant Survey - Fall 2023 | Fish Camp, an optional extended orientation camp, provides a transition from high school to college for approximately 6,000 incoming freshmen. Fish Camp has assessed different aspects of the program since 2000. Fish Camp wanted to assess the freshmen who did not attend Fish Camp to understand their first semester at Texas A&M and find out if there are things Fish Camp can do in their marketing and programming for more students to attend. ATC Howdy Camp 2020 Counselor/Teamer/CoChair & Camper Surveys | Howdy Camp, sponsored by Aggie Transition Camps (ATC) is an extended optional orientation camp held immediately prior to the spring semester for students transferring to or first time attending Texas A&M University in the spring semester. This year Howdy Camp was held January 3-5, 2020. This report summarizes the results of surveys sent to co-chairs, counselors and teamers who work at the camp, as well as the participants (campers) who attend. 2020 Howdy Week Coordinators Assessment | Howdy Week, a series of events held just before the fall semester to welcome primarily new students to campus, is coordinated by New Student and Family Programs (NSFP) in the Offices of the Dean of Student Life. Howdy Week 2020 were a combination of virtual events, hybrid virtual and in-person events. Coordinators of the events were surveyed for their feedback regarding various components of their experience and attendance at the programs they sponsored during the week. Live@Noon: A Summer Series 2020 | New Student and Family Programs (NSFP) in the Offices of the Dean of Student Life sponsored Live@Noon: A Summer Series, a summer series of virtual book discussions with faculty and fellow students, open to all new students. This program replaced previous years’ in-person Summer Reading programs held during Howdy Week. Live@Noon: A Summer Series outcomes were to help new students acclimate themselves to the virtual college classroom experience, learn to interact with professors and meet fellow freshmen about to attend Texas A&M University. Participants were surveyed in early September to assess their experiences and gain their feedback regarding the value of the program to them. Traditions Night | The Department of Student Activities, Extended Orientation, in collaboration with Texas A&M Athletics, hosted Traditions Night on August 25, 2021 for incoming Texas A&M student-athletes.
