Health Promotion Alcohol Education Workshop Outcomes 2022-2023 | Students who receive a sanction to attend the Alcohol Education Workshop (AEW) are required to meet with a Health Promotion (HP) staff member prior to their workshop, attend the workshop, then come back for a follow-up meeting with the HP staff member approximately two weeks after participating in the workshop. Health Promotion wanted to assess whether the students attending AEW met the learning outcomes. Student Leader Inclusive Learning Outcomes 2022-2023 | Student Affairs Planning, Assessment & Research (SAPAR) and staff from the Department of Student Activities met with student leaders from multiple sponsored and affiliated Texas A&M University student organizations to develop student leader learning outcomes relevant to their organizational leadership experiences. These outcomes associated with the Texas A&M University (TAMU) undergraduate learning outcomes of life-long learning and demonstrate social, cultural and global competence. An assessment was created to gain insight from student organization leaders about experiences within their student organizations related to their progress in achieving both learning outcomes during the year. Student Research Week - Spring 2023 | Student Research Week (SRW) is a four-day competition coordinated by the Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG). Students can share their research conducted at Texas A&M either through oral presentations or poster sessions. This year, Student Research Week was held March 20-24, 2023. The Graduate and Professional Student Government wanted to assess the experiences of the competitors, judges, and volunteers regarding their participation in Student Research Week 2023. MSC Program Assembly and Program Approval Process - Spring 2024 | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Student Programs Office has three Program Assemblies, which are groups of student leaders and advisors who meet weekly to approve programs and speakers for upcoming events put on by one of the 18 MSC committees. Each Program Assembly is led by a student leader who serves as the Vice President of Programs. Additionally, each Program Assembly consists of student leaders who serve as committee chairs and full-time staff members who serve as advisors to the 18 committees. The MSC wanted to review its program planning process and Program Assemblies (PAs) to find out how it could be streamlined and work more effectively for these four primary stakeholders. To gather data from all stakeholders, three different surveys were developed, and one focus group was conducted. MSC SCONA 69 - Spring 2024 | Each spring the Memorial Student Center (MSC) Student Conference on National Affairs (SCONA) hosts a conference to provide “programs for students across Texas, the nation, and the world to exchange ideas and discuss the role of the United States in the global community.” The theme for SCONA 69 was “American Grand Strategy: Winning the Decisive Decade,” and was held on February 15-17, 2024. SCONA 69 utilized speakers and team facilitators with first-hand experiences in the topics to guide delegates in the creation of a policy paper. MSC FLI Costa Rica Service Trip - Spring 2020 | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Freshmen Leadership International (FLI) coordinates one major international travel experience for its members each year over spring break. MSC FLI went to Costa Rica again this year from March 7-13, 2020 for this international travel experience. MSC FLI indicated the following outcomes for participants: • Participants demonstrate a willingness to step out of their comfort zone to try something new. Trip participants were assessed at different points during the experience to gauge how well the outcomes were met and the overall impact of this experience. Freshman Leadership Organization Student Experience - Spring 2020 | The Department of Student Activities wanted to better understand students’ experience as it relates to their membership in one of the Freshman Leadership Organizations (FLOs). Specifically, Student Activities wanted to look at students’ expectations from their FLO experience, if students actually received what they expected, if there were any unexpected benefits due to their membership, and if students would recommend their FLO to new incoming students. Additionally, the department wanted to learn how supported students felt by their FLO and if this changed as the university moved to a remote environment. Utilities Challenge - Spring 2020 | The Utilities Challenge (U-Challenge) is a project where teams of students utilized data about the residence halls to learn about the proficiency of the buildings and propose ways to increase the efficiency in the buildings (https://reslife.tamu.edu/living/sustainability/u-challenge/). As part of the project, 4-6 students make up a team, and each team gives a 15-minute presentation about their research and findings discussing the utility systems of the residence halls and suggestions for improving these systems. The Department of Residence Life wanted to assess the students involved in this project to understand their experiences, what they gained from participating, and gather ideas to improve the project in the future. MSC Department-Wide 2021 Summative Assessment | The outgoing Executive Vice President of Business, and newly elected Memorial Student Center (MSC) President reached out to Student Life Studies for feedback on survey questions in spring 2021. Because of that conversation, Student Life Studies continued to support the MSC Executive Team as it gathered feedback on how the MSC organization can continue to support its members and grow toward fulfilling its mission/vision. These findings are each tied to the mission priorities of the department. Living Learning Communities and On-Campus Living - Spring 2021 | The Department of Residence Life wanted to understand the experiences of first-time in college (FTIC) students living in the residence halls. They specifically wanted to compare the experiences of students in a Living Learning Communities (LLC) to residents not in one of the Living Learning Communities. Residence Life will use the information to improve the programs and services provided to students living on-campus. Student Life Studies assisted the Department of Residence Life in conducting a similar assessment in spring 2019 as a pilot assessment. After the pilot was completed, questions were adjusted and were divided to ask half of the questions one year and half the following year. The questions for the assessment focused on a sense of community, personal gains, and general satisfaction. Student Leader Inclusive Learning Outcomes 2021-2022 | Student Affairs Planning, Assessment & Research (SAPAR) and staff from the Department of Student Activities met with student leaders from multiple sponsored and affiliated Texas A&M University student organizations to gain input in developing student leader learning outcomes. These outcomes associated with the Texas A&M University undergraduate learning outcomes practice personal and social responsibility and demonstrate social, cultural and global competence. Then related learning outcomes were conceived and written in conjunction with student leaders to more closely relate to their experiences as a student leader within their organizations.
