Diversity Climate Survey Fall 2021 | The Texas A&M Memorial Student Center (MSC) provides leadership development opportunities for students through its 18 programming committees and resource areas. MSC Diversity leadership wanted to assess how MSC committee members and executive teams perceived the diversity initiatives instituted toward creating an inclusive student union. Student Life Studies has worked with the MSC since 2011 to assess the diversity and inclusion efforts and its effects on its membership. I-Week 2022 | The International Festival, known as I-Week, is a weeklong festival and Texas A&M’s largest cultural celebration. It is designed to bring cultural awareness to those attending as well as to serve as a platform for cultural organizations and individuals to share their home cultures with the Texas A&M community. This year, I-Week took place on March 28-April 1, 2022, and consisted of a variety of events including I-Exhibit, I-Story, I-Dinner, I-Show, I-Art, and I-Awards. International Student Association (ISA) wanted to assess attendees for any activity during the weeklong event. Memorial Student Center (MSC) Spencer Leadership Conference Evaluation Spring 2021 | The MSC Spencer Leadership Conference focuses on leadership development through the exploration of three pillars: Self-Aware Leadership, Innovative Leadership, and Selfless Leadership. Approximately 27 student delegates participated in preconference programs, primarily virtual, and attended the conference in-person held in College Station in early March 2021. The conference includes programs and small group discussions featuring leaders in business, industry, education and public service. Delegates were surveyed to assess their experiences and learning during the conference as well as during preconference events. Memorial Student Center Carter G. Woodson Black Awareness Committee 14th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast January 2021 | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Carter G. Woodson Black Awareness Committee (WBAC) annually sponsors The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Breakfast. This year’s program, offered virtually, was held on January 21, 2021; attendees were surveyed to help MSC WBAC better understand their experience, and to improve future programs. Memorial Student Center Student Diversity Focus Groups Fall 2020 | At the beginning of fall of 2020, the Memorial Student Center (MSC) Diversity contacted Student Life Studies (SLS) to help facilitate focus groups as outlined in their diversity plan that would enable them gain insight regarding the current climate with the MSC. Student Life Studies has worked with the MSC before in their assessment of diversity within the MSC, and this is the second time SLS assisted the MSC in conducting focus groups regarding MSC student perceptions surrounding diversity and inclusion. Mi Casa es Su Casa 2019-2020 | Mi Casa es Su Casa are a series of dinners hosted by faculty and staff for students throughout the academic year. Sponsored by MSC CAMAC, these dinners intend participants to network with other students and faculty and staff, and gain a better understanding of opportunities that can open in the future. This year three dinners were held - two in the fall semester and one in the spring. After the November and February dinners participating students were sent surveys in effort to better understand their experience. The hosts were sent a survey after the last dinner to also gain a better understanding of their experience with the student organizers and what improvements or changes they recommend for next year's events. MSC Abbott Family Leadership Conference San Antonio and Houston Spring 2021 | Memorial Student Center (MSC) Abbott Family Leadership Conference (AFLC) sponsored two separate conferences in spring 2021, which prior to the COVID 19 pandemic traveling restrictions would have been held in San Antonio and Houston. MSC AFLC also sponsored additional pre-conference events that included all delegates. Different students attended each conference. MSC AFLC addresses four “pillars” in their pre-conference events and at both conferences: ethics, the importance of family, service, and values. Survey evaluations include an assessment of the delegates’ experiences at each conference and surrounding pre-conference events. Although both conferences were held on the Texas A&M campus, each was referenced by their traditional conference locations (San Antonio and Houston). The San Antonio conference was held on January 28-30, 2021 and the Houston conference on February 25-27, 2021. MSC Aggie Cinema Streaming and Screening Fall 2023 Report | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Aggie Cinema committee is responsible for organizing both in-person movie screenings and the online streaming site for the Texas A&M University student population. This assessment aimed to survey students who attended an in-person screening during Fall 2023 and/or who utilized the online streaming site, AggieCinema.tamu.edu to determine users’ satisfaction and future interest in Aggie Cinema offerings. MSC Aggie Cinema Survey Fall 2020 | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Aggie Cinema committee is responsible for organizing movie screenings for the Texas A&M University student population. Due to COVID 19 gathering restrictions, MSC Aggie Cinema offered students (on-campus residents) access to a movie/tv streaming service in lieu of in-person movie screenings during the fall 2020 semester. MSC Aggie Cinema wanted to determine students’ satisfaction with the service and future interest in continuing with the service. MSC Conway-Fitzhugh Summer 2023 Assessment | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Conway-Fitzhugh coordinates a summer study abroad trip to Italy for incoming freshmen who qualify as National Merit Scholars. This year, the three-week-long trip was in July 2023. Trip participants were assessed through an electronic survey after returning from the trip at the beginning of their first semester at Texas A&M University in an effort to gauge how well the outcomes were met and the overall impact of this experience on these students. This is the first time Student Affairs Planning, Assessment & Research (SAPAR) worked with the MSC to assess the Conway-Fitzhugh experience. MSC Department-Wide 2021 Summative Assessment | The outgoing Executive Vice President of Business, and newly elected Memorial Student Center (MSC) President reached out to Student Life Studies for feedback on survey questions in spring 2021. Because of that conversation, Student Life Studies continued to support the MSC Executive Team as it gathered feedback on how the MSC organization can continue to support its members and grow toward fulfilling its mission/vision. These findings are each tied to the mission priorities of the department. MSC Fall Leadership Conference 2021 | The 69th Annual Memorial Student Center (MSC) Fall Leadership Conference (FLC), themed Harnessing Happiness to Lead with Success, was held August 24 through August 26, 2021. Student leaders (delegates) attending the conference were surveyed to assess their experiences at the conference, including listening to various speakers, participating in group discussions, and opportunities to network with other student leaders, former students, faculty, and staff. MSC FLI Coast Rica Service Trip - 2022 | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Freshmen Leadership International (FLI) coordinates an international service-learning program in Costa Rica for its members and any freshman in a Freshman Leadership Organization (FLO) each year over spring break. This year, the service-learning experience was from March 12-18, 2022. MSC FLI indicated the purpose of the trip for participants is to learn about another culture, enhance their Spanish language skills, experience the rainforest, and engage with local community members. Trip participants were assessed at three different points during the experience to gauge how well the outcomes were met and the overall impact of this experience.
