I-Week Attendees - 2023 | The International Festival, known as I-Week, is a weeklong festival and Texas A&M’s largest cultural celebration. It is designed to bring cultural awareness to those attending as well as to serve as a platform for cultural organizations and individuals to share their home cultures with the Texas A&M community. This year, I-Week took place on February 27-March 4, 2023, and consisted of a variety of events including I-Exhibit, I-Story, I-Dinner, I-Show, I-Art, and I-Awards. International Graduate Student Assessment - Spring 2023 | The Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG) wanted to assess the experiences of international graduate and professional students at Texas A&M to identify areas in which GPSG could work with International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) to improve international graduate students’ experience. More specifically, GPSG wanted to understand international graduate students’ experiences as they encounter processes unique to international students, like the I-20 processes, using the Terra Dotta system, and processes in applying and participating in Optional Practical Training (OPT). Intramural Sports Participation Survey | Recreational Sports (Rec Sports) offers dozens of intramural activities each semester for a wide range of skill levels. Each year, more than 13,000 students participate in the intramural program. Staff members with Intramural Sports wanted to assess students who participated in the intramural program during the spring 2023 semester to understand their experiences and how to improve the program for the future. Leadership Education for APIDA Development (LEAD) Conference Spring 2021 | Multicultural Services and student leaders from the Asian President’s Council contacted Student Life Studies to assist in developing an assessment for the 2021 Leadership Education for Asian, Pacific Islander, Desi American (APIDA) Development (LEAD) Conference. This year’s conference was held virtually the evening of April 9 and the morning of April 10, 2021 and the theme of LEAD was "Stronger when Together, Together while Apart." The conference was open to students, staff and faculty from Texas A&M University and from other educational institutions. Live@Noon: A Summer Series 2020 | New Student and Family Programs (NSFP) in the Offices of the Dean of Student Life sponsored Live@Noon: A Summer Series, a summer series of virtual book discussions with faculty and fellow students, open to all new students. This program replaced previous years’ in-person Summer Reading programs held during Howdy Week. Live@Noon: A Summer Series outcomes were to help new students acclimate themselves to the virtual college classroom experience, learn to interact with professors and meet fellow freshmen about to attend Texas A&M University. Participants were surveyed in early September to assess their experiences and gain their feedback regarding the value of the program to them. Living Learning Communities and On-Campus Living - Spring 2021 | The Department of Residence Life wanted to understand the experiences of first-time in college (FTIC) students living in the residence halls. They specifically wanted to compare the experiences of students in a Living Learning Communities (LLC) to residents not in one of the Living Learning Communities. Residence Life will use the information to improve the programs and services provided to students living on-campus. Student Life Studies assisted the Department of Residence Life in conducting a similar assessment in spring 2019 as a pilot assessment. After the pilot was completed, questions were adjusted and were divided to ask half of the questions one year and half the following year. The questions for the assessment focused on a sense of community, personal gains, and general satisfaction. Memorial Student Center (MSC) Spencer Leadership Conference Evaluation Spring 2021 | The MSC Spencer Leadership Conference focuses on leadership development through the exploration of three pillars: Self-Aware Leadership, Innovative Leadership, and Selfless Leadership. Approximately 27 student delegates participated in preconference programs, primarily virtual, and attended the conference in-person held in College Station in early March 2021. The conference includes programs and small group discussions featuring leaders in business, industry, education and public service. Delegates were surveyed to assess their experiences and learning during the conference as well as during preconference events. Memorial Student Center Carter G. Woodson Black Awareness Committee 14th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast January 2021 | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Carter G. Woodson Black Awareness Committee (WBAC) annually sponsors The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Breakfast. This year’s program, offered virtually, was held on January 21, 2021; attendees were surveyed to help MSC WBAC better understand their experience, and to improve future programs. Memorial Student Center Student Diversity Focus Groups Fall 2020 | At the beginning of fall of 2020, the Memorial Student Center (MSC) Diversity contacted Student Life Studies (SLS) to help facilitate focus groups as outlined in their diversity plan that would enable them gain insight regarding the current climate with the MSC. Student Life Studies has worked with the MSC before in their assessment of diversity within the MSC, and this is the second time SLS assisted the MSC in conducting focus groups regarding MSC student perceptions surrounding diversity and inclusion. Mi Casa es Su Casa 2019-2020 | Mi Casa es Su Casa are a series of dinners hosted by faculty and staff for students throughout the academic year. Sponsored by MSC CAMAC, these dinners intend participants to network with other students and faculty and staff, and gain a better understanding of opportunities that can open in the future. This year three dinners were held - two in the fall semester and one in the spring. After the November and February dinners participating students were sent surveys in effort to better understand their experience. The hosts were sent a survey after the last dinner to also gain a better understanding of their experience with the student organizers and what improvements or changes they recommend for next year's events. MSC Abbott Family Leadership Conference San Antonio and Houston Spring 2021 | Memorial Student Center (MSC) Abbott Family Leadership Conference (AFLC) sponsored two separate conferences in spring 2021, which prior to the COVID 19 pandemic traveling restrictions would have been held in San Antonio and Houston. MSC AFLC also sponsored additional pre-conference events that included all delegates. Different students attended each conference. MSC AFLC addresses four “pillars” in their pre-conference events and at both conferences: ethics, the importance of family, service, and values. Survey evaluations include an assessment of the delegates’ experiences at each conference and surrounding pre-conference events. Although both conferences were held on the Texas A&M campus, each was referenced by their traditional conference locations (San Antonio and Houston). The San Antonio conference was held on January 28-30, 2021 and the Houston conference on February 25-27, 2021. MSC Aggie Cinema Streaming and Screening Fall 2023 Report | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Aggie Cinema committee is responsible for organizing both in-person movie screenings and the online streaming site for the Texas A&M University student population. This assessment aimed to survey students who attended an in-person screening during Fall 2023 and/or who utilized the online streaming site, AggieCinema.tamu.edu to determine users’ satisfaction and future interest in Aggie Cinema offerings. MSC Aggie Cinema Survey Fall 2020 | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Aggie Cinema committee is responsible for organizing movie screenings for the Texas A&M University student population. Due to COVID 19 gathering restrictions, MSC Aggie Cinema offered students (on-campus residents) access to a movie/tv streaming service in lieu of in-person movie screenings during the fall 2020 semester. MSC Aggie Cinema wanted to determine students’ satisfaction with the service and future interest in continuing with the service.
