The purpose of the Spring Leadership Exchange is to allow Texas A&M students from the Qatar and College Station campuses to share diverse cultures, perspectives, and experiences with one another while learning together about leadership in a global society. The assessment was to determine the effectiveness in reaching this purpose.
To assess the session participants to understand the effectiveness of the workshops and the intended learning outcomes for each workshop. For the 2016-2017 academic year, eight
workshops were held covering the following topics: using assessment tools; Qualtrics training (presented each semester); documenting student learning; practical statistics; sharing assessment results; using assessment results; and connecting plans.
This study describes the demographic characteristics of student leaders (chief leader and treasurer) in recognized student organizations over a six year period. The demographic categories included sex, race/ethnicity, first generation status, classification, academic college, and average GPR. The analysis also provided the information by level or organization: Sponsored, Registered, and Affiliated.
The report details the results of a customer satisfaction survey sent to customers who contacted the help (service) desk of the Department of Information Technology within the Division of Student Affairs in the 2016-2017 academic year. Intent was to measure the satisfaction level of customers of the help desk regarding their interactions with both student techs who work the Service Desk, and full time, professional staff who assist with troubleshooting and problem solving of issues brought through the help (service) desk.
The report summarizes the results of the Quality of Life survey sent to graduate and professional students during the fall of 2016, sponsored by the Graduate and Professional Student Council (GPSC). The report includes results pertaining to three topics of the English Proficiency Exam, Vending Machine/Food Options on campus, Funding/General Issue. Report also highlights general demographic data of those students sent and responding to the survey.
Off-Campus Student Services (OCSS) in the Offices of the Dean of Student Life created a three-hour class for off campus Texas A&M students who have been found in violation of College Station’s noise ordinances. The course was developed in conjunction with the police department, OCSS, Student Conduct Office in Student Life, the Texas A&M Student Government Association, and the municipal court. A College Station judge can assign the course as an option for first-time violators. The workshop curriculum includes discussion of the city codes, seeing the issues from another’s perspective, being a good neighbor, conflict management, and party planning skills.
According to its website, Student Life Studies “provides leadership in assessment and planning to the Division of Student Affairs and to student organizations, maximizing program effectiveness and emphasizing student learning.” Furthermore, the vision of the department is to “create a culture in the Division of Student Affairs that values meaningful assessment, uses results to guide improvement, and articulates contributions to student success.” One goal for Student Life Studies is to provide quality assessment services to facilitate client planning and decision-making. Student Life Studies wanted to assess clients who utilized the department’s services to understand their satisfaction and use of assessment results in making program improvements. Student Life Studies has conducted various forms of a client assessment since 2005.
There were two sessions of Venture: Base Camp over the summer. The first one, Alpha, took place on July 10 – 15, 2017 and Bravo, the second camp, was scheduled July 17 – 22, 2017. During this six-day camp, students went rock climbing, swimming, and canoeing; had discussion groups; learned about Aggie traditions; and took a campus tour/scavenger hunt. This was the third year of the program and the third time to work with Student Life Studies to assess the effectiveness of the camp experience.
Peer Advisers for Veteran Education (PAVE) is a peer support program that connects incoming student veterans with student veterans already on campus in order to help them navigate college life. This summary report documents the assessment of learning of the 2016-2017 PAVE peer advisers and team leads from their participation in the program, specifically in the areas of interpersonal and written communication.
One of Student Life Studies' goals is to provide quality assessment services to facilitate client planning and decision-making. To measure this goal and associated outcomes, the department conducted focus groups with clients to understand the effectiveness and quality of the services provided. Focus groups are conducted every three years; this assessment summary reports the results of the focus groups conducted in the summer of 2016.
Recreational Sports offers a variety of exercise classes to members. Most of the attendees are students, but faculty, staff, spouses, and community members can also join with a membership fee. Each class is taught by a trained instructor. Classes are offered at a variety of times during the day and week. Department staff wanted to assess the exercise classes to address concerns and make improvements.
