Student Assistance Services Student Experience - 2020-2021 | Student Assistance Services is one of the units in the Offices of the Dean of Student Life. According to its website (https://studentlife.tamu.edu/sas/), Student Assistance Services (SAS) “seeks to connect Texas A&M University students with the appropriate guidance, resources, and support to address a variety of personal and academic matters.” Students are often referred to Student Assistance Services for a variety of reasons such as concerning behavior, student death, sexual violence, withdrawal from school, student welfare checks, and general consultation. Traditions Night | The Department of Student Activities, Extended Orientation, in collaboration with Texas A&M Athletics, hosted Traditions Night on August 25, 2021 for incoming Texas A&M student-athletes. Student Life Studies collaborated with the Department of Student Activities to assess the participating students’ experiences with Traditions Night. SERU Graduate Climate Experiences 2021 | The Student Experience in the Research University (SERU) is a consortium of research institutions in the Association of American Universities that administer a common survey to generate knowledge and help further the goals of higher education in general and at the member institutions specifically. The SERU/Your Voice survey is a comprehensive survey of all graduate and professional students at Texas A&M University (TAMU) intended to give faculty, students, and administration in-depth insights into the student experience. Living Learning Communities and On-Campus Living - Spring 2021 | The Department of Residence Life wanted to understand the experiences of first-time in college (FTIC) students living in the residence halls. They specifically wanted to compare the experiences of students in a Living Learning Communities (LLC) to residents not in one of the Living Learning Communities. Residence Life will use the information to improve the programs and services provided to students living on-campus. Student Life Studies assisted the Department of Residence Life in conducting a similar assessment in spring 2019 as a pilot assessment. After the pilot was completed, questions were adjusted and were divided to ask half of the questions one year and half the following year. The questions for the assessment focused on a sense of community, personal gains, and general satisfaction. Business Relationship Management Model Survey 2021 | Division of Student Affairs (DSA) department directors and staff who are members of the DSA Department of Information Technology (DoIT) Liaison committee during the 2020-2021 academic year were surveyed for feedback regarding their relationship with DoIT services, as defined by four core discipline components of the Business Relationship Management (BRM) model. This is the first time Student Life Studies helped DoIT assess departmental feedback regarding progress towards an optimum relationship with each DSA departments using the BRM model. Green Dot Bystander Intervention Overview and Training Evaluations 2020-2021 | According to its website (greendot.tamu.edu), Green Dot is an international movement built on the premise that individuals can systematically and measurably reduce the levels of power-based personal violence found in their community. Students, staff and faculty who participated in the Texas A&M Green Dot Bystander Intervention training classes and the Green Dot Overview virtual workshops were surveyed to assess the programs and how attending affected participants’ understanding of concepts related to power-based personal violence. Parent and Family Assessment 2021 -New Student & Family Programs | New Student & Family Programs (NSFP) wanted to gather feedback from parents and family members of first year and third year students regarding communication with the university, as well as to understand their experiences receiving communication regarding the COVID-19 pandemic during the 2020-2021 academic year. This is the second time Student Life Studies has worked with New Student and Family Programs conducting a parent and family assessment. Client Follow-Up Feedback | Starting in summer 2020, Student Life Studies staff members began scheduling meetings with clients several weeks after assessment projects were completed. The purpose of these follow-up meetings was to find out what information from the report stood out to clients, how clients might use or share the results, or if there was any additional analysis Student Life Studies could provide. The department wanted to gather feedback from clients to know if these short follow-up meetings were beneficial or if the department could do something to make them more helpful. Ethics and Decision Making Workshop Evaluation 2020-2021 | The Student Conduct Office (SCO) within the Offices of the Dean of Student Life wanted to assess the learning and overall experiences of students attending the Ethics and Decision Making (EDM) Workshop. The survey intended to assess whether students could identify and list influences on their values and decisions, and understand strategies for making decisions. The survey also requested participants’ feedback about the effectiveness of the facilitators. Graduate & Professional Student Government Grad Camp Fall 2021 | Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG) sponsored one virtual session and one in-person session of Grad Camp held on August 18th and August 25th, 2021. GPSG worked with Student Life Studies since 2001 to assess the experiences of counselors and the campers who attend Grad Camp. Health Promotions Presentations Survey 2020-2021 | Health Promotion (HP) staff offer a variety of presentations for classrooms, student organizations and residence halls on health-related topics to promote healthy lifestyles, health maintenance, disease/injury prevention and interpersonal violence protection for Texas A&M University students and the campus community. After each presentation, participants were surveyed to ascertain their satisfaction with each presentation, whether the topics presented were relevant to them, and to gain insight into future improvements needed. Due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions, all 2020-2021 HP presentations were virtual. Health Promotion: Hullabaloo U Lessons 2020-2021 | Health Promotion (HP) staff offered 2020 Hullabaloo U instructors a series of five 50-minute lessons that they could facilitate as part of the Hullabaloo U curriculum during their fall 2020 courses. Two of the lessons, Healthy Relationships and Well Being: Dimensions of Wellness, were required to be delivered. Instructors were surveyed after those required lessons were to have been delivered to measure the effectiveness of those lessons from the perspective of instructors to incorporate future improvements to the lesson plans. The surveys assessed whether instructors felt the students met the learning outcomes, were receptive to and participated in the activities included in the lessons and whether instructors thought the lessons valuable. HP staff also wanted to understand if lessons were implemented with ease, and succinct enough to facilitate within a 50-minute timeframe. International Graduate Student Assessment 2020-2021 | The Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG) wanted to assess the experience of international graduate students at Texas A&M to identify areas in which GPSG can help improve their student experience and quality of life at Texas A&M. More specifically GPSG wanted to understand international graduate students’ experiences as they encounter processes unique to international students, like the I-20 processes, using the Terra Dotta system, and processes in applying and participating in Optional Practical Training (OPT). GPSG leadership contacted Student Life Studies in the fall of 2020 to assist them in creating and distributing the survey to international graduate students attending Texas A&M University (College Station) in spring 2021. Health Promotions- Sex in the Dark Workshop 2020-2021 | The Sex in the Dark workshop, conducted by Health Promotion (HP), is designed to increase the knowledge of students regarding their sexual health. Learning outcomes developed for Sex in the Dark workshop include: • Participants will report increased knowledge of healthy sexual behaviors. This year an electronic survey was developed intending to measure participants’ learning, as well as gauge participants’ overall impression of the program and perceptions of the facilitators of the program. All programs offered in 2020-2021 were virtual. This is the fourth year that Student Life Studies has worked with Health Promotion to assess the Sex in the Dark workshops.
