Aggie Pregnant and Parenting Student Organization Student Needs Focus Groups | The Aggie Pregnant and Parenting student organization, in conjunction with the Texas A&M University Women’s Resource Center (WRC) contacted Student Life Studies to assist in assessing the needs of pregnant and parenting students on the Texas A&M College Station campus. Early in the spring 2020 semester, all students on the College Station campus were surveyed about their parenting status, as well as interest in participating in subsequent focus groups. The purpose of these focus groups was to inquire about the experiences and needs of Aggies who are parents, or becoming parents while attending the university. Parent and Family Assessment - Spring 2020 | New Student and Family Programs (NSFP) provides outreach to Aggie families because they understand how families contribute to students’ college success. Sully Statue Survey Spring 2020 - Student Senate/SGA | The Student Senate wanted to collect input from the Texas A&M University student body regarding the statue of Lawrence Sullivan (Sul) Ross that is located in the Academic Plaza and options surrounding its future presence on campus. Student Senators developed survey questions and contacted Student Life Studies to assist in survey editing, distribution, analysis and report of the survey results so the Senate can report the findings to Texas A&M administration and to the student body. Student Assistance Services Student Experience - 2019-2020 | Student Assistance Services is one of the units in the Offices of the Dean of Student Life. According to its website (https://studentlife.tamu.edu/sas/), Student Assistance Services (SAS) “seeks to connect Texas A&M University students with the appropriate guidance, resources, and support to address a variety of personal and academic matters.” Students are often referred to Student Assistance Services for a variety of reasons such as concerning behavior, student death, sexual violence, withdrawal from school, student welfare checks, and general consultation. Parent/Guardian Satisfaction Survey - Spring 2020 | The Becky Gates Children’s Center (BGCC or the Center) conducts annual assessments of the parents/guardians of the children who attend the Center to evaluate and continue to provide high-quality services for those children and their parents/guardians. The assessment focuses on parents/guardians’ overall satisfaction, their experience with their child’s teacher and classroom, as well as the management of the Center. Additionally this year, the survey included some questions related to the online learning opportunities provided by the Center this spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Disability Resources Faculty Survey - Spring 2020 | Every couple of years, Disability Resources gathers feedback from faculty members to understand how they can best work with faculty to serve students. Mi Casa es Su Casa 2019-2020 | Mi Casa es Su Casa are a series of dinners hosted by faculty and staff for students throughout the academic year. Sponsored by MSC CAMAC, these dinners intend participants to network with other students and faculty and staff, and gain a better understanding of opportunities that can open in the future. This year three dinners were held - two in the fall semester and one in the spring. After the November and February dinners participating students were sent surveys in effort to better understand their experience. The hosts were sent a survey after the last dinner to also gain a better understanding of their experience with the student organizers and what improvements or changes they recommend for next year's events. Sex in the Dark Workshop 2019-2020 (Health Promotions ODSL) | Sex in the Dark is a workshop conducted by Health Promotion (HP) to increase the knowledge of students in regards to their sexual health. Disability Resources Student Survey - Spring 2020 | Disability Resources wanted to assess the overall satisfaction of the students registered with the department to understand their experience working with the department staff, as well as specific changes based on the university moving to a remote environment due to COVID-19. Freshman Leadership Organization Student Experience - Spring 2020 | The Department of Student Activities wanted to better understand students’ experience as it relates to their membership in one of the Freshman Leadership Organizations (FLOs). Specifically, Student Activities wanted to look at students’ expectations from their FLO experience, if students actually received what they expected, if there were any unexpected benefits due to their membership, and if students would recommend their FLO to new incoming students. Additionally, the department wanted to learn how supported students felt by their FLO and if this changed as the university moved to a remote environment. MSC FLI Costa Rica Service Trip - Spring 2020 | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Freshmen Leadership International (FLI) coordinates one major international travel experience for its members each year over spring break. MSC FLI went to Costa Rica again this year from March 7-13, 2020 for this international travel experience. MSC FLI indicated the following outcomes for participants: • Participants demonstrate a willingness to step out of their comfort zone to try something new. Trip participants were assessed at different points during the experience to gauge how well the outcomes were met and the overall impact of this experience. Utilities Challenge - Spring 2020 | The Utilities Challenge (U-Challenge) is a project where teams of students utilized data about the residence halls to learn about the proficiency of the buildings and propose ways to increase the efficiency in the buildings (https://reslife.tamu.edu/living/sustainability/u-challenge/). As part of the project, 4-6 students make up a team, and each team gives a 15-minute presentation about their research and findings discussing the utility systems of the residence halls and suggestions for improving these systems. The Department of Residence Life wanted to assess the students involved in this project to understand their experiences, what they gained from participating, and gather ideas to improve the project in the future. University Art Galleries Student Ambassador Survey Spring 2020 | In the spring of 2020 University Art Galleries wanted to assess their student visitors’ experience visiting the Forsyth and Stark Galleries, and their interest in participating in a student ambassador program. A short electronic survey was developed and sent via email to students who visited the galleries from September 2019 through February 2020. Rec Sports Facilities Customer Service | Staff from the Department of Recreational Sports contacted Student Life Studies to assist with an assessment to gather information from students relating to their satisfaction with the Rec Center facility spaces and interactions with their staff. More specifically, the Rec Center staff wanted to measure the satisfaction or dissatisfaction level with facility spaces and to learn where improvements to facilities, operations, and programs could be made to make students' experiences at the Rec Center more enjoyable. This is the fourth time the department has worked with Student Life Studies to concentrate on assessing the facilities within the Rec Center.
