The Division of Student Affairs (DSA) Committee on Student Learning in the Co-Curricular (CSL) promotes the understanding, implementation, assessment, and improvement of transformative learning student experiences ans provides resources for DSA staff who facilitate co-curricular learning experiences for students. As the Division of Student Affairs is committed to providing High Impact Practice (HIP) experiences and assessing students’ learning through their involvement in these experiences, CSLAT wanted to assess students involved in one or more division High Impact Practice to understand their learning and skills developed through these experiences. The committee developed assessment questions to be included on the existing Texas A&M Graduating Senior Survey, administered through the Office of Institutional Effectiveness & Evaluation (OIE&E). This report summarizes the results of responses to those questions included in the Graduating Senior Survey.
The Leadership Education for APIDA Development (LEAD) Conference intends strengthening the campus identity and development of Asian, Pacific Islander, Desi American (APIDA) students on campus. Facilitated by the Department of Multicultural Services and the Asian Presidents’ Council, the purpose of the conference is to support and advocate for the APIDA community. Student Learning outcomes identified for students attending the inaugural conference, on April 22 2018 were:
• Identify current issues and needs of the APIDA community
• Learn how their personal values connect to leadership and social change
• Engage in networking with their peers to positively impact their communities
• Address the social and educational needs of the APIDA community
The attached report summarizes the results of the survey provided to the attendees at the end of the conference. Survey intended to measure conference attendees’ satisfaction with the conference as well as what they gained from attending.
The 2018 International Women’s Day Conference, Press for Progress, was held on the evening of Wednesday, March 7, 2018. The conference included performances, presentations, and small group discussions. The Women’s Resource Center wanted to assess the effectiveness of the conference.
Trip participants were provided a pre-trip assessment, trip assessment, and post-trip assessment at different points during the experience in order to gauge how well the outcomes were met and the overall impact of this experience.
The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Student Conference on National Affairs (SCONA) was founded in 1955 in order to bring national and foreign policy issues to Texas A&M University.The theme for SCONA 63 was “New World Disorder: Reconsidering America’s Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships” and was held February 15-17, 2018. The conference, which brings together delegates from all over the world, was assessed using a paper survey in effort to gauge the delegates' experiences with the conference. The attached report summarizes the results of the survey.
The purpose of the Spring Leadership Exchange is to allow Texas A&M students from the Qatar and College Station campuses to share diverse cultures, perspectives, and experiences with one another while learning together about leadership in a global society. The assessment was to determine the effectiveness in reaching this purpose.
The Corps Global Leadership Initiatives Program is a partnership between the Corps of Cadets, the Department of International Studies, the Study Abroad Programs Office, and the Confucius Institute. Each year, cadets apply for one of the three international trips. Each year, different countries are selected, and once students are chosen, they attend orientation meetings to prepare for their experience prior to the actual trip in May. In 2017 three different trips were planned: China, Panama & Costa Rica, and South Africa. While in each country, students meet with various military personnel and diplomats to learn about the country and the relationship that country has with the United States. The trips utilize the DIME-R framework and focus on topics of diplomacy, information (media), military, economics, and religious/culture. Cadets also have time built into the schedule to explore the country to experience the culture, eat the food, and go to various museums or historical sites. The attached summarizes the assessments given to provide the Corps of Cadets a better understanding of the cadets' experiences during the program.
The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Fall Leadership Conference (FLC) is an annual event that occurs the week before the fall semester begins; this year’s conference was held on August 23th through August 25th, 2016. Program outcomes for the conference included giving new student leaders the opportunity to network with other leaders, staff, administrators and former students. MSC FLC also intended for delegates to increase their perspective of leadership, and understand how globalization affects everyone. Conference activities, such as focus group sessions, speakers, and group activities, are designed to accomplish all aspects of the program outcomes. The attached summary report provides results from the survey given to the delegates to assess their experience with the conference.
The Global Leadership Initiatives Program focuses on developing a context of international awareness, regional expertise, and language competence among the cadets at Texas A&M University. The Corps Global Leadership Initiatives Program is a partnership between the Corps of Cadets, the Department of International Studies, the Study Abroad Programs Office, and the Confucius Institute. The Corps of Cadets wanted to understand the experiences of the cadets on these trips, and three different surveys were developed in effort to measure the cadets' experiences in each country. The attached report summarizes the results of those assessments.
The Spring Leadership Exchange (SLE) is an international exchange between Texas A&M – College Station and Texas A&M – Qatar. The Leadership and Service Center, in the Department of Student Activities, provides students participating in the program structured opportunities to learn about global leadership and the importance of service to society.The first half of the exchange was on TAMU-College Station campus from February 26 – March 4, 2016. The week-long schedule included a mix of social, cultural, and educational activities designed to expose the TAMU-Qatar students to various aspects of life in College Station and – to a broader extent – the United States. The last half of the exchange took place in Doha at the TAMU-Qatar campus from March 11-18, 2016. Similar to the first half of the exchange, there were social, cultural, and educational activities, which exposed the TAMU-College Station students to Doha. A survey was developed to assess the experiences of the participants of the Spring Leadership Exchange, and the attached report summarizes the results of that survey.
