Southwestern Black Student Leadership Conference (SBSLC) 2018: A Legacy in Living Color

In January 2018, the Southwestern Black Student Leadership Conference (SBSLC) held its 30th annual conference on the campus of Texas A&M University. Program outcomes for this year's SBSLC included giving participants the opportunity to participate in workshops that will educate them on issues of leadership, community, health, relationships, culture, race and ethnicity. Participants would also be able to connect with with corporations and graduate schools in efforts to gain admissions into graduate programs or obtain internship and employment opportunities. SBSLC staff developed surveys to evaluate participants' and their advisers' experiences with the Career Fair, Advanced Leadership Institute (ALI), the overall conference, and events specifically developed for advisers. Individual workshop surveys were also developed, however the results of those surveys are not included in the attached report which highlights the results of the participants evaluations of the overall conference, career fair, ALI and adviser experience.

Gilbert Leadership Conference 2017 Participant Evaluation

The Gilbert Leadership Conference (GLC) is a committee of the Student Government Association (SGA).founded in 2006 as a legacy of David Gilbert, the conference namesake, and selects freshmen delegates to participate to learn about the Texas A&M values and conference pillars.. Starting in early October and for the seven weeks leading up to the conference, delegates learn about character, service, and involvement and how to incorporate these values into their lives during the first semester on campus. The experience culminates with a four-day conference, held in November 9-12, 2017 in Dallas, TX. While at the conference, delegates listen to various speakers, participate in a service project, and interact with the Gilbert family. The attached report summarizes results of the pre-conference and conference evaluations delegates complete.

Recreational Sports Marketing Survey

The Department of Recreational Sports conducts a marketing assessment every few years to understand the effectiveness of their marketing efforts as well as monitor changes in how students gather information. This is the third time Rec Sports has worked with Student Life Studies on a marketing assessment.

International Women’s Day Conference

The 2018 International Women’s Day Conference, Press for Progress, was held on the evening of Wednesday, March 7, 2018. The conference included performances, presentations, and small group discussions. The Women’s Resource Center wanted to assess the effectiveness of the conference.

Student Media Non-Editor Assessment

Student Media wanted to understand what students gained through their employment experience and worked with Student Life Studies to specifically assess the students who were not in an editor role.

MSC FLI Costa Rica Service Learning Trip

Trip participants were provided a pre-trip assessment, trip assessment, and post-trip assessment at different points during the experience in order to gauge how well the outcomes were met and the overall impact of this experience.

The Gardens Apartments Programs Survey, 2017-2018

The Gardens Apartments rents to Texas A&M graduate students, married students, students with a dependent child or children, international students, US military veteran students, students who are at least 21 years old or undergraduate students who have completed at least 30 semester hours or 2 semesters in residence at a 2 or 4 year college. Due to some changes, specifically the addition of the Peer Mentoring Program, the Gardens Apartments staff assessed current residents’ preferences regarding sponsored programs offered for all residents, as well as the residents’ perception of and experience with the Academic Peer Mentor program. The attached report summarizes the results of that assessment.

MSC SCOLA 30th Annual Student Conference on Latino Affairs

The MSC Student Conference on Latino Affairs (SCOLA) sponsors a conference yearly and this year's conference occurred on April 5-7 2018, and its theme was Influential Voices: Shaping Perspective through Representation. The conference featured five keynote speakers and 15 workshops. The goal of the conference was to explore how one can grow as an individual and a professional while maintaining and fostering one’s identity/culture. Delegates attend the MSC SCOLA conference from colleges and universities from all over the country. The attached report is a summary of the results of the conference evaluation completed by delegates at the conference.

Academic Peer Mentors Presentations

Academic Peer Mentors offer weekly topic-based presentations related to study skills and techniques; there are ten different presentations offered throughout the year. Academic Support Initiatives wanted to assess the effectiveness of these academic skill presentations offered by the APMs. The results will be used to ensure the identified learning outcomes for each presentation are being met and improve the presentations in the future. This is the first time Student Life Studies worked with Academic Support Initiatives to assess these academic presentations.

Memorial Student Center (MSC) Student Conference on National Affairs 63 Spring 2018

The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Student Conference on National Affairs (SCONA) was founded in 1955 in order to bring national and foreign policy issues to Texas A&M University.The theme for SCONA 63 was “New World Disorder: Reconsidering America’s Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships” and was held February 15-17, 2018. The conference, which brings together delegates from all over the world, was assessed using a paper survey in effort to gauge the delegates' experiences with the conference. The attached report summarizes the results of the survey.

MaroonLink Student Engagement Support Grant 2017-2018

The Department of Student Activities was awarded a DSA College Completion Grant which funded the MaroonLink Student Engagement Support Graduate Assistant to support and market MaroonLink to students, student organizations, DSA departments and faculty. The assessment summary report attached highlights the Class of 2020 cohort's use of Maroonlink to record their connection, engagement and leadership from fall 2016 through the end of fall 2017.

Mi Casa es Su Casa 2017-2018

Mi Casa es Su Casa, sponsored by MSC CAMAC, provides an opportunity for students to interact with faculty as the latter provides dinner in their home for the students. This report summarizes the assessment results from the student survey regarding their experiences at three dinners held throughout the 2017-2018 academic year. Generally very positive, the students' indicated they enjoyed the dinners, and the opportunities to connect with other students and professors at Texas A&M. And, because of this experience 98% agreed they were more likely to feel comfortable approaching Texas A&M faculty.

MSC Spencer Leadership Conference - Spring 2018

According to the organization’s website, (http://spencer.tamu.edu/) MSC Spencer is a conference “that seeks to provide a unique opportunity to sophomores to enhance personal leadership skills in the pursuit of life long excellence in diverse environments.” The conference focuses on leadership development through the exploration of three pillars: Self-Aware Leadership, Innovative Leadership, and Selfless Leadership.

Campus-Wide Survey for University Police Department

The Texas A&M University Police Department (UPD) is required to survey “citizens” as a part of national accreditation requirements with International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA). UPD surveys the campus community on a regular basis to gather input from the community, identify and improve practices, and address attitudes that might contribute to tension and grievances. The process for gathering that information can be determined by the department.

The Big Event 2017 Community and Participant Surveys

The Big Event (TBE), committee of the Student Government Association (SGA) worked with Student Life Studies in 2017 to send out satisfaction surveys to both the Community members receiving the services of TBE and the student participants providing services on the day. The majority of both the community members and the participants were positive regarding their experience with TBE 2017.
