University Police Department - Student and Citizen Assessment - 2022 | The Texas A&M University Police Department (UPD) is required to survey “citizens” as a part of national accreditation requirements with the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA). UPD surveys the campus community regularly to gather input from the community, identify and improve practices, and address attitudes that might contribute to tension and grievances. The process for gathering that information can be determined by the department. The broad description of the assessment content includes: • Overall departmental performance Student Life Studies initially worked with UPD in 2010 to address specifically the accreditation requirements and topics using a campus-wide survey of students, faculty, and staff. 2023 De-Stress Fest Summary Report | Recreational Sports (Rec Sports) partnered with various offices across campus to host De-Stress Fest. This program was held on March 23, 2023, and the program was designed to teach participants the importance of self-care, participate in activities to lower stress, and learn about campus resources. Participants were assessed at the event after engaging in the activities to gauge what students learned about self-care and the resources that were present at the event. De-Stress Fest 2024 | Recreational Sports (Rec Sports) partnered with various offices across campus to host De-Stress Fest. This program was held on March 6, 2024, and the program was designed to teach participants the importance of self-care, participate in activities to lower stress, and learn about campus resources. Rec Sports had the following two outcomes for De-Stress Fest: 1. Participants will identify at least two resources that could help increase their wellness. Participants were assessed at the event after engaging in the activities to gauge what students learned about self-care and if the two outcomes were accomplished. Department of Recreational Sports 2021 High Impact Practice Participants | The Department of Recreational Sports (Rec Sports) wanted to capture and understand the impact of student leadership roles in the department. An electronic survey was sent to student employees in certain positions that have been identified as being High Impact Practice positions late the in spring 2021 semester. Group RecXercise Classes - Fall 2021 | The Department of Recreational Sports (Rec Sports) offers a variety of group exercise classes, called Group RecXercise classes, at its facility to members for an additional fee. Approximately every other year Rec Sports assesses the exercise classes of members who purchased a pass offering unlimited access to classes by semester. The feedback guides Rec Sports staff to address concerns and make improvements to Group RecXercise. Intramural Sports Participation Survey | Recreational Sports (Rec Sports) offers dozens of intramural activities each semester for a wide range of skill levels. Each year, more than 13,000 students participate in the intramural program. Staff members with Intramural Sports wanted to assess students who participated in the intramural program during the spring 2023 semester to understand their experiences and how to improve the program for the future. Rec Sports Climbing Wall Focus Group - Spring 2022 | The department of Recreational Sports (Rec Sports or the Rec) strives to serve all Texas A&M students. The Outdoor Adventures staff recognized that they did not have female students use the climbing wall at the same level as male students. They wanted to understand why female students did not use the climbing wall and what staff could do to encourage more female students to utilize the facilities. To understand the experiences of female students, a focus group was conducted with female students who regularly utilized the Rec Center but did not use the climbing wall regularly. Rec Sports Facilities Customer Service | Staff from the Department of Recreational Sports contacted Student Life Studies to assist with an assessment to gather information from students relating to their satisfaction with the Rec Center facility spaces and interactions with their staff. More specifically, the Rec Center staff wanted to measure the satisfaction or dissatisfaction level with facility spaces and to learn where improvements to facilities, operations, and programs could be made to make students' experiences at the Rec Center more enjoyable. This is the fourth time the department has worked with Student Life Studies to concentrate on assessing the facilities within the Rec Center. Living Learning Communities and On-Campus Living - Spring 2021 | The Department of Residence Life wanted to understand the experiences of first-time in college (FTIC) students living in the residence halls. They specifically wanted to compare the experiences of students in a Living Learning Communities (LLC) to residents not in one of the Living Learning Communities. Residence Life will use the information to improve the programs and services provided to students living on-campus. Student Life Studies assisted the Department of Residence Life in conducting a similar assessment in spring 2019 as a pilot assessment. After the pilot was completed, questions were adjusted and were divided to ask half of the questions one year and half the following year. The questions for the assessment focused on a sense of community, personal gains, and general satisfaction. Sustainability Awareness Initiative | The Department of Residence Life facilitates various sustainability initiatives, programs and resources for on-campus residents. The department wanted to assess the awareness of their sustainability initiatives, resources and programs among on-campus residents, as well as these students’ involvement in these initiatives and programs. Utilities Challenge - Spring 2020 | The Utilities Challenge (U-Challenge) is a project where teams of students utilized data about the residence halls to learn about the proficiency of the buildings and propose ways to increase the efficiency in the buildings (https://reslife.tamu.edu/living/sustainability/u-challenge/). As part of the project, 4-6 students make up a team, and each team gives a 15-minute presentation about their research and findings discussing the utility systems of the residence halls and suggestions for improving these systems. The Department of Residence Life wanted to assess the students involved in this project to understand their experiences, what they gained from participating, and gather ideas to improve the project in the future. Block Party and Volunteer Opportunity Fair - August 2020 | Each year during Howdy Week, the Department of Student Activities hosts Block Party, a large-scale program for students to learn about getting involved in student organizations. This year the department combined Block Party with the Volunteer Opportunity Fair, which helps students learn more about volunteering with local agencies. The virtual event was held on August 13, 2020, and included live interviews, videos, music, giveaways, question and answer sessions, and local agencies. Additionally, local food vendors collaborated with Student Activities to offer coupons for free or discounted food items. The Department of Student Activities wanted to understand students’ experiences during the event.
