MSC Conway-Fitzhugh Summer 2023 Assessment | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Conway-Fitzhugh coordinates a summer study abroad trip to Italy for incoming freshmen who qualify as National Merit Scholars. This year, the three-week-long trip was in July 2023. Trip participants were assessed through an electronic survey after returning from the trip at the beginning of their first semester at Texas A&M University in an effort to gauge how well the outcomes were met and the overall impact of this experience on these students. This is the first time Student Affairs Planning, Assessment & Research (SAPAR) worked with the MSC to assess the Conway-Fitzhugh experience. MSC Department-Wide 2021 Summative Assessment | The outgoing Executive Vice President of Business, and newly elected Memorial Student Center (MSC) President reached out to Student Life Studies for feedback on survey questions in spring 2021. Because of that conversation, Student Life Studies continued to support the MSC Executive Team as it gathered feedback on how the MSC organization can continue to support its members and grow toward fulfilling its mission/vision. These findings are each tied to the mission priorities of the department. MSC Fall Leadership Conference 2021 | The 69th Annual Memorial Student Center (MSC) Fall Leadership Conference (FLC), themed Harnessing Happiness to Lead with Success, was held August 24 through August 26, 2021. Student leaders (delegates) attending the conference were surveyed to assess their experiences at the conference, including listening to various speakers, participating in group discussions, and opportunities to network with other student leaders, former students, faculty, and staff. MSC FLI Coast Rica Service Trip - 2022 | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Freshmen Leadership International (FLI) coordinates an international service-learning program in Costa Rica for its members and any freshman in a Freshman Leadership Organization (FLO) each year over spring break. This year, the service-learning experience was from March 12-18, 2022. MSC FLI indicated the purpose of the trip for participants is to learn about another culture, enhance their Spanish language skills, experience the rainforest, and engage with local community members. Trip participants were assessed at three different points during the experience to gauge how well the outcomes were met and the overall impact of this experience. MSC FLI Costa Rica Service Trip - Spring 2020 | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Freshmen Leadership International (FLI) coordinates one major international travel experience for its members each year over spring break. MSC FLI went to Costa Rica again this year from March 7-13, 2020 for this international travel experience. MSC FLI indicated the following outcomes for participants: • Participants demonstrate a willingness to step out of their comfort zone to try something new. Trip participants were assessed at different points during the experience to gauge how well the outcomes were met and the overall impact of this experience. MSC Open House Student Organizations Experience Fall 2020 | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) sponsors MSC Open House each semester to provide Texas A&M students the opportunity to interact with hundreds of student organizations recruiting for members. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic gathering restrictions, the fall 2020 MSC Open House was held virtually via Instagram. MSC Open House staff assessed the student organization coordinators to ascertain the quality of their experience registering and preparing for fall’s MSC Open House and their experience during the event. MSC Program Assembly and Program Approval Process - Spring 2024 | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Student Programs Office has three Program Assemblies, which are groups of student leaders and advisors who meet weekly to approve programs and speakers for upcoming events put on by one of the 18 MSC committees. Each Program Assembly is led by a student leader who serves as the Vice President of Programs. Additionally, each Program Assembly consists of student leaders who serve as committee chairs and full-time staff members who serve as advisors to the 18 committees. The MSC wanted to review its program planning process and Program Assemblies (PAs) to find out how it could be streamlined and work more effectively for these four primary stakeholders. To gather data from all stakeholders, three different surveys were developed, and one focus group was conducted. MSC Spencer Leadership Conference Evaluation Spring 2020 | The MSC Spencer Leadership Conference focuses on leadership development through the exploration of three pillars: Self-Aware Leadership, Innovative Leadership, and Selfless Leadership. Approximately 44 student delegates attend pre-conference programs during the fall semester, and attend the conference held in Dallas in January. The conference includes programs and small group discussions featuring leaders in business, industry, education and public service. Delegates were surveyed to assess their experiences and learning during the conference as well as during pre-conference events. MSC Student Programs Diversity Climate Survey | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Student Programs Office provides leadership development opportunities for students through its 18 programming committees and resource areas. MSC Diversity leadership wanted to assess how MSC committee members and executive teams perceived the diversity initiatives instituted toward creating an inclusive student union. New Aggies Student Survey 2020: Success after Graduation | All new undergraduate students (First Time in College [FTIC] and transfer), including branch campuses, were invited to complete the New Aggies Student Survey September 8-27, 2020. The survey gathered feedback on a variety of topics including pre-college experiences, sense of belonging, campus climate, potential obstacles, and campus resources. A total of 7,288 students responded to the survey. Off Campus Student Services Community Luncheon - Spring 2024 | Off Campus Student Services (OCSS) supports students living off-campus in the Bryan/College Station area, including helping students understand leases and find housing. Off Campus Student Services hosted a community luncheon on February 1, 2024, to educate local citizens on events, neighborhood codes, and being good neighbors. OCSS will use this information to inform future programs and student support. Off Campus Student Services Property Managers F23 | Off Campus Student Services (OCSS) supports students living off-campus in the Bryan/College Station area, including helping students understand leases and find housing. OCSS surveyed property managers in the Bryan/College Station area to learn more about their leases, their marketing timeline, and the type of housing they oversee. Out-of-State Family Focus Groups | New Student and Family Programs (NSFP) is a unit within the Offices of the Dean of Student Life and work with families for all Texas A&M students. NSFP wanted to understand the needs of out-of-state Aggie families. Specifically, they wanted to learn how they could provide better programs and services to this family population and beneficial resources. In addition, New Student and Family Programs wanted to learn about these families’ experiences with New Student Conferences and Family Weekend. Student Life Studies conducted virtual focus groups with out-of-state family members to gather the desired information for New Student and Family Programs.
