2020 Howdy Week Coordinators Assessment | Howdy Week, a series of events held just before the fall semester to welcome primarily new students to campus, is coordinated by New Student and Family Programs (NSFP) in the Offices of the Dean of Student Life. Howdy Week 2020 were a combination of virtual events, hybrid virtual and in-person events. Coordinators of the events were surveyed for their feedback regarding various components of their experience and attendance at the programs they sponsored during the week. Block Party and Volunteer Opportunity Fair - August 2020 | Each year during Howdy Week, the Department of Student Activities hosts Block Party, a large-scale program for students to learn about getting involved in student organizations. This year the department combined Block Party with the Volunteer Opportunity Fair, which helps students learn more about volunteering with local agencies. The virtual event was held on August 13, 2020, and included live interviews, videos, music, giveaways, question and answer sessions, and local agencies. Additionally, local food vendors collaborated with Student Activities to offer coupons for free or discounted food items. The Department of Student Activities wanted to understand students’ experiences during the event. Grad Camp 2020 | Graduate and Professional Student Council (GPSC) sponsored two virtual sessions of Grad Camp held on August 11th and 12th. GPSC has worked with Student Life Studies since 2001 to assess the experience of counselors and the campers who attend Grad Camp. University Art Galleries Student Ambassador Survey Spring 2020 | In the spring of 2020 University Art Galleries wanted to assess their student visitors’ experience visiting the Forsyth and Stark Galleries, and their interest in participating in a student ambassador program. A short electronic survey was developed and sent via email to students who visited the galleries from September 2019 through February 2020. Website Review Student Focus Groups Spring 2020 | A team from Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) redesigned the CAPS website, which became live to viewers near the beginning of the fall 2019 semester. That team contacted Student Life Studies during the fall semester to help them assess the student user experience of the updated website, specifically to gain student feedback to inform website enhancements and maintenance. Three focus groups of students were conducted early in the spring semester. The primary goal of the assessment was to get feedback regarding whether the layout and organization of the CAPS website were easily navigated by student audience(s) - primarily students seeking counseling services, and was the information about services clear and easily found by students visiting the site. CAPS also wanted to know if the look and information provided on the website was welcoming for a wide range of students, including those who may be hesitant about seeking services. ATC Howdy Camp 2020 Counselor/Teamer/CoChair & Camper Surveys | Howdy Camp, sponsored by Aggie Transition Camps (ATC) is an extended optional orientation camp held immediately prior to the spring semester for students transferring to or first time attending Texas A&M University in the spring semester. This year Howdy Camp was held January 3-5, 2020. This report summarizes the results of surveys sent to co-chairs, counselors and teamers who work at the camp, as well as the participants (campers) who attend. Utilities Challenge - Spring 2020 | The Utilities Challenge (U-Challenge) is a project where teams of students utilized data about the residence halls to learn about the proficiency of the buildings and propose ways to increase the efficiency in the buildings (https://reslife.tamu.edu/living/sustainability/u-challenge/). As part of the project, 4-6 students make up a team, and each team gives a 15-minute presentation about their research and findings discussing the utility systems of the residence halls and suggestions for improving these systems. The Department of Residence Life wanted to assess the students involved in this project to understand their experiences, what they gained from participating, and gather ideas to improve the project in the future. Disability Resources Student Survey - Spring 2020 | Disability Resources wanted to assess the overall satisfaction of the students registered with the department to understand their experience working with the department staff, as well as specific changes based on the university moving to a remote environment due to COVID-19. Freshman Leadership Organization Student Experience - Spring 2020 | The Department of Student Activities wanted to better understand students’ experience as it relates to their membership in one of the Freshman Leadership Organizations (FLOs). Specifically, Student Activities wanted to look at students’ expectations from their FLO experience, if students actually received what they expected, if there were any unexpected benefits due to their membership, and if students would recommend their FLO to new incoming students. Additionally, the department wanted to learn how supported students felt by their FLO and if this changed as the university moved to a remote environment. MSC FLI Costa Rica Service Trip - Spring 2020 | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Freshmen Leadership International (FLI) coordinates one major international travel experience for its members each year over spring break. MSC FLI went to Costa Rica again this year from March 7-13, 2020 for this international travel experience. MSC FLI indicated the following outcomes for participants: • Participants demonstrate a willingness to step out of their comfort zone to try something new. Trip participants were assessed at different points during the experience to gauge how well the outcomes were met and the overall impact of this experience. Website Review-Student Focus Groups | Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) completely revamped their website, first showcasing in the fall of 2019. Early spring 2020 a series of student focus groups were held to understand student use and obtain their feedback regarding changes and improvements that were needed to further update the website to better meet students' needs. Rec Sports Facilities Customer Service | Staff from the Department of Recreational Sports contacted Student Life Studies to assist with an assessment to gather information from students relating to their satisfaction with the Rec Center facility spaces and interactions with their staff. More specifically, the Rec Center staff wanted to measure the satisfaction or dissatisfaction level with facility spaces and to learn where improvements to facilities, operations, and programs could be made to make students' experiences at the Rec Center more enjoyable. This is the fourth time the department has worked with Student Life Studies to concentrate on assessing the facilities within the Rec Center. University Police Department Student and Citizen Survey | The Texas A&M University Police Department (UPD) is required to survey “citizens” as a part of national accreditation requirements with International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA). UPD surveys the campus community on a regular basis to gather input from the community, identify and improve practices, and address attitudes that might contribute to tension and grievances. The process for gathering that information can be determined by the department.
