Division of Student Affairs Staff Needs Assessment | The DSA Staff Wellbeing and Appreciate Committee (SWAC) wanted to understand staff members’ impressions, current behavior, and needs in the areas of appreciation and wellbeing. Additionally, the committee wanted to learn about staff members’ current work environment if that is on campus or in an alternative location due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the second time Student Life Studies has worked with the division committee to assess staff’s needs, although the focus for several areas changed. DSA Awards Committee Awards Nomination Experience Assessment FA 2022 | The Division of Student Affairs Awards Committee wanted to understand how the DSA Awards nomination process was perceived by DSA staff in an effort to increase the number of award nominations. Student Affairs Planning, Assessment & Research (SAPAR) assisted the committee in developing a survey to assess the DSA staff about the nomination process; the attached report summarizes the results of that survey. Traditions Night | The Department of Student Activities, Extended Orientation, in collaboration with Texas A&M Athletics, hosted Traditions Night on August 25, 2021 for incoming Texas A&M student-athletes. Student Life Studies collaborated with the Department of Student Activities to assess the participating students’ experiences with Traditions Night. Freshman Leadership Organization Student Experience - Fall 2020 | The Department of Student Activities wanted to understand the recruitment and motivation of students applying for one of the Freshman Leadership Organizations (FLOs) in the 2020-2021 academic year. Specifically, Student Activities wanted to find out what impact, if any, COVID-19 had on students’ motivation to apply and to look at students’ reasons for applying to a FLO. Student Life Studies worked with Student Activities for the past two academic years to assess students’ experience in Freshman Leadership Organizations. Freshman Leadership Organization Student Experience - Spring 2020 | The Department of Student Activities wanted to better understand students’ experience as it relates to their membership in one of the Freshman Leadership Organizations (FLOs). Specifically, Student Activities wanted to look at students’ expectations from their FLO experience, if students actually received what they expected, if there were any unexpected benefits due to their membership, and if students would recommend their FLO to new incoming students. Additionally, the department wanted to learn how supported students felt by their FLO and if this changed as the university moved to a remote environment. Living Learning Communities and On-Campus Living - Spring 2021 | The Department of Residence Life wanted to understand the experiences of first-time in college (FTIC) students living in the residence halls. They specifically wanted to compare the experiences of students in a Living Learning Communities (LLC) to residents not in one of the Living Learning Communities. Residence Life will use the information to improve the programs and services provided to students living on-campus. Student Life Studies assisted the Department of Residence Life in conducting a similar assessment in spring 2019 as a pilot assessment. After the pilot was completed, questions were adjusted and were divided to ask half of the questions one year and half the following year. The questions for the assessment focused on a sense of community, personal gains, and general satisfaction. Sustainability Awareness Initiative | The Department of Residence Life facilitates various sustainability initiatives, programs and resources for on-campus residents. The department wanted to assess the awareness of their sustainability initiatives, resources and programs among on-campus residents, as well as these students’ involvement in these initiatives and programs. Department of Recreational Sports 2021 High Impact Practice Participants | The Department of Recreational Sports (Rec Sports) wanted to capture and understand the impact of student leadership roles in the department. An electronic survey was sent to student employees in certain positions that have been identified as being High Impact Practice positions late the in spring 2021 semester. Group RecXercise Summary Report 2023 | The Department of Recreational Sports (Rec Sports) offers a variety of group exercise classes, called Group RecXercise classes, at its three facilities to members for an additional fee. Approximately every other year Rec Sports assesses the exercise classes of members who purchased a pass offering unlimited access to classes by semester. Rec Sports Climbing Wall Focus Group - Spring 2022 | The department of Recreational Sports (Rec Sports or the Rec) strives to serve all Texas A&M students. The Outdoor Adventures staff recognized that they did not have female students use the climbing wall at the same level as male students. They wanted to understand why female students did not use the climbing wall and what staff could do to encourage more female students to utilize the facilities. To understand the experiences of female students, a focus group was conducted with female students who regularly utilized the Rec Center but did not use the climbing wall regularly. Parent/Guardian Satisfaction Survey - Spring 2020 | The Becky Gates Children’s Center (BGCC or the Center) conducts annual assessments of the parents/guardians of the children who attend the Center to evaluate and continue to provide high-quality services for those children and their parents/guardians. The assessment focuses on parents/guardians’ overall satisfaction, their experience with their child’s teacher and classroom, as well as the management of the Center. Additionally this year, the survey included some questions related to the online learning opportunities provided by the Center this spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Aggie Pregnant and Parenting Student Organization Student Needs Focus Groups | The Aggie Pregnant and Parenting student organization, in conjunction with the Texas A&M University Women’s Resource Center (WRC) contacted Student Life Studies to assist in assessing the needs of pregnant and parenting students on the Texas A&M College Station campus. Early in the spring 2020 semester, all students on the College Station campus were surveyed about their parenting status, as well as interest in participating in subsequent focus groups. The purpose of these focus groups was to inquire about the experiences and needs of Aggies who are parents, or becoming parents while attending the university. MSC Fall Leadership Conference 2021 | The 69th Annual Memorial Student Center (MSC) Fall Leadership Conference (FLC), themed Harnessing Happiness to Lead with Success, was held August 24 through August 26, 2021. Student leaders (delegates) attending the conference were surveyed to assess their experiences at the conference, including listening to various speakers, participating in group discussions, and opportunities to network with other student leaders, former students, faculty, and staff. Res Life Aggieland Saturday Spring 2024 Summary Report | Texas A&M University hosted Aggieland Saturday on February 10, 2024. Aggieland Saturday is an annual campus-wide event aimed at recruiting prospective students to Texas A&M University. This open house event offers prospective students and their families the opportunity to explore Texas A&M University’s campus and everything Texas A&M has to offer, including information on academics, admissions, financial aid and scholarships, student organizations, and on-campus housing. The Department of Residence Life participated in Aggieland Saturday by providing tours of Residence Life facilities and information about Residence Life offerings. This survey was created to assess the experiences of Department of Residence Life staff, including student, graduate, and full-time staff, who worked at the event.
